What you told us and further consultation

First, we would like to say thank you to everyone that took part in the Commonplace engagement, we received more than 2,000 contributions from 429 respondents. We have produced a summary of the key messages you told us which is shown below ( click here for PDF link ).

Working with partners, building on existing knowledge and using the feedback we received through the Commonplace engagement, we have developed a shortlist of schemes that seek to provide better connections, better access and better places for communities and all users of the A641.

We have now launched a public consultation on this shortlist of schemes. We want your views on the proposed improvements so we can identify and develop the best schemes to form a final package of schemes.

At present West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) has allocated funding of £75.5 million to the scheme through the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund, with additional development funding from the Transforming Cities Fund, but the proposals in this consultation exceed that funding. The schemes that are taken forward, and the designs of these schemes, will be based on your feedback. This means your views are crucial to ensure that the schemes taken forward meet the needs of the community.

24hours until the A641 Commonplace site closes

Tomorrow, 18th March, the A641 Commonplace site will close to comments , so far we’ve had a great response with over 5,000 visitors to the site and nearly 2,000 contributions.

From what you’ve told us so far the top problems are:

Streets feel unsafe

Roads are congested and difficult to cross

Areas are not walk or cycle friendly

Your top suggestions are:

Reduce traffic levels

Provide better junctions and crossings

Improve facilities for walking and cycling

Do you have friends, colleagues and family members that you think could contribute? If so, they only have 24hours left so please share this News item via the social media buttons.

Once the site is closed the A641 project team will review all comments, suggestions and ideas and use the feedback to further develop proposals. In May we’ll issue a report summarising the feedback received through this Commonplace engagement and we’ll let you know how we’ve used the feedback to shape the A641 proposals, and then in Summer 2021 we will be launching a public consultation on the proposed package of schemes.

Thank you to everyone that has taken part so far but this is just the start of the conversation on how to improve travel in and around Brighouse, and along the A641.

1,000 visitors to the A641 Commonplace site

Today this A641 Commonplace website had its 1000th visitor – thank you to everyone that has taken the time to visit and contribute. So far most of the comments have been around Brighouse but it’s great to see your comments and contributions along the corridor. From what you’ve told us so far…

the top five problems are:

Streets feeling unsafe

Roads being congested

Roads being difficult to cross

Areas not being pedestrian or cycle friendly

Slow journeys

…and your top five suggestions are:

Provide new/better road crossings

Improve junctions to reduce delay

Reduce the level of traffic

More space for walking and cycling

New / better cycling paths

The site remains live for a few more weeks and will close on the 18th March – once closed we will review all comments, suggestions and ideas and use the feedback to further develop our proposals.
